Panacea ATP Pro or Liroma PrimeFORCE?

Are you unsure whether to choose an ATP Pro panel from Panacea or a PrimeFORCE Gen5 from Liroma? Understandable: they’re the two best-known Dutch brands for at-home red light therapy.

Below, we compare the panels on the points customers ask us about most often: wavelengths, light intensity, price, trial period, and warranty. Using Liroma’s specifications as listed on liroma.nl.

Light intensity: both brands take their own measurements using different instruments and labs. A solar meter covers a broader spectrum than a spectrometer, which is why the figures differ so much. Always compare measurements taken using the same method.

EMF: We measured the ATP Pro at full power using a TriField TF2, directly in front of the panel and plugged into a grounded outlet. This is the strictest place to measure. The readings are well below the European limits (5,000 V/m and 100 µT). A reported value of exactly 0.00 says more about the measurement method: any device running on mains power produces a measurable field. View our EMF measurement report (PDF).

Why we included 590 and 1072 nm in the panel

Most panels, including those from Liroma, use red light around 630 to 670 nm and near-infrared light around 810 to 850 nm. We’ve deliberately added two wavelengths that you rarely see from other brands.

590 nm (amber) is at the top of the panel, at face height: the range used in research on skin texture and tone. 1072 nm is the deepest infrared in our panel; research on this range focuses on energy, concentration, and memory. We’ve also included 940 nm for deeper tissues.

We call this Smart Placement: each wavelength is positioned in the panel where it makes the most sense.

Why not 650 or 670 nm? An LED doesn’t emit a single line, but a band. Our 660 nm LEDs emit light from approximately 640 to 680 nm, with a peak at 660. So 650 and 670 are already included, and your cells respond to that entire band, not the number. Additional 650 or 670 nm LEDs would therefore be more of the same. We’d rather use those spots in the panel for wavelengths that truly add something: 590, 940, and 1072 nm.

LEDs per wavelength: we do say it

Each LED in an ATP Pro panel is dual-chip: two wavelengths in one LED. Below, you can see exactly how many chips of each wavelength are in each panel, based on the panel’s LED layout.

Liroma PrimeFORCE Gen5: Elite 288, Advanced 144, Compact 72 dual-chip LEDs. Liroma does not state on liroma.nl how many LEDs or chips of each wavelength are in a panel. So you know it contains eight wavelengths, but not how much light you get from each one. We believe you should be able to see that before spending €500 to €1,700.

Fair is fair

Where Liroma earns points

  • The Advanced and Elite come with a mobile floor stand and a remote control in the box
  • Three additional red wavelengths (650, 670, and 830 nm), close to 660 and 850 nm
  • Wavelengths can be adjusted separately
  • An electric horizontal stand is available as an option

Where Panacea makes a difference

  • A lower price for every size, even compared with Liroma’s sale prices
  • 590, 940 and 1072 nm, which Liroma doesn’t offer
  • You can see exactly how many chips of each wavelength are in your panel
  • Try it at home for 180 days with a free return label, instead of 60 days with return shipping costs

Why we offer 180 days, not 60

Red light therapy only works after weeks of use. Studies show effects on knee, neck, and shoulder complaints after three to eight weeks of daily use, and sleep and skin are no different.

At 60 days, you're still in the middle of that process when you have to decide. We believe you should have that time before making a final decision. That's why we give you six months, with a free return label if it turns out not to be right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which panel is right for me?

If you want to treat a large part of your body lying down in one session, take a look at the ATP Pro 1500 or the Complete Set with a horizontal stand. If you prefer to treat one area at a time, standing or sitting, the ATP Pro 700 is the most convenient. The ATP Pro 350 is enough for your face, neck, or a single joint. Still unsure? The selection guide takes two minutes.

Why is there no blue light in the panels?

Red and near-infrared light do the work in a panel. Blue LEDs in between add nothing to red and infrared light and create dead spots in the light coverage. That's why we leave them out, and Liroma does too. For acne-prone skin, we have the LED Mask, which does include blue light.

Why 940 nm and not 830 nm?

850 nm does almost everything 830 nm does. Instead of a wavelength that's nearly identical, we chose 940 nm, which reaches deeper and truly broadens the spectrum.

Why do the light intensities vary so much between brands?

Both devices measure the output themselves, using different instruments. A solar meter covers a broader spectrum than a spectrometer and always gives a higher reading. Therefore, only compare solar meter with solar meter and spectrometer with spectrometer, at the same distance.

Liroma has 650 and 670 nm, and Panacea doesn’t. Am I missing something?

No. 650, 660, and 670 nm are so close together that they do the same thing: the range in which your cells absorb red light runs roughly from 620 to 680 nm. In addition, a 660 nm LED already emits a band of about 640 to 680 nm, so 650 and 670 are already included. Having three red options side by side may sound like more, but it’s more of the same. That’s why we used that space in the panel for 590, 940, and 1072 nm, which do something different.

At Liroma, you can set wavelengths separately. Why not at Panacea?

Because in practice, it offers little benefit. Red and near-infrared complement each other, and almost nobody deliberately uses a single wavelength on its own. Making each wavelength individually switchable requires extra switching electronics in the panel, and every additional component is another potential point of failure. We prefer to keep things simple and reliable: all wavelengths on, adjustable intensity and pulse settings, and a timer. You turn on the panel, and it does what it’s supposed to do.
