The Biological Mechanism

Red light around 630-660 nm stimulates fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen and elastin. Histological research shows an increase in type I collagen and a decrease in matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), the enzymes that break down collagen. This means more collagen production and less collagen breakdown: a double positive effect.
